Characterizing the variability and meteorological drivers of wind power and solar power generation over Africa

چکیده

Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) has the lowest energy access rates in world, which poses a key barrier to power system development. Deployment of renewables, including wind and solar power, will play role expanding electricity supply across SSA: distributed generation (enabling for remote communities), cost-effectiveness low emissions are advantages. However, renewable is weather dependent; therefore, more renewables increases amount meteorologically driven variability system. Two countries SSA chosen detailed investigation this variability: Senegal West Kenya East Africa. These due being areas dense population, where there operational plans regional expansion. In Senegal, fairly consistent throughout year, while exhibits strong seasonality, with peak boreal spring. Low days during summer found be related passage African Easterly Waves. Over Kenya, both exhibit seasonal variability, peaking autumn, at minimum summer. Inter-annual greater over than Senegal; El Nino Southern Oscillation impact Kenya. phases associated lower October–December but higher July–September. This improved understanding assist planners designing reliable future systems.

Economic assessment of renewable power generation based on wind speed and solar radiation in urban regions

Economic evaluation of 12 MW grid-connected wind farms and PV power plants in two regions in Northern Cyprus for electricity generation was investigated. The wind speed, sunshine duration, and solar global radiation characteristics were analyzed using monthly data collected over 17 years (2000-2016) for Girne and nine years (2008-2016) for Lefkoşa, which were measured at various heights. The re...

Solar Pv-wind Hybrid Power Generation System

Renewable energy sources i.e.,energy generated from solar, wind, biomass, hydro power, geothermal and ocean resources are considered as a technological option for generating clean energy. But the energy generated from solar and wind is much less than the production by fossil fuels, however, electricity generation by utilizing PV cells and wind turbine increased rapidly in recent years. This pap...

Non-Conventional Power Generation Using Solar And Wind With The Aid Of Hydro Power Generation

The latest trend in generating power for industrial and domestic purposes is the hybrid power generation using non-conventional energy sources. The non-conventional energy sources are the renewable sources that can be utilized again after every use and also whose supply is abundant in nature. This paper presents a new system configuration of the front-end rectifier stage for a hybrid wind/photo...

Characterizing and analyzing ramping events in wind power, solar power, load, and netload

One of the biggest concerns associated with integrating a large amount of renewable energy into the power grid is the ability to handle large ramps in the renewable power output. For the sake of system reliability and economics, it is essential for power system operators to better understand the ramping features of renewables, load, and netload. In this paper, an optimized swinging door algorit...
